The ongoing renovation of San Francisco’s 100-year-old Pier 40 has taken one step closer to completion.

General contractor BCCI Construction said July 14 that it has finished the second phase of a $20 million renovation of San Francisco’s South Beach Park and Harbor complex. Their work focused on the Pier 40 portion of the site, according to a company news release.

Work began in July 2008 and consisted of structural buttressing to the pier’s underwater portions, improvements to a pedestrian walkway, and renovation of the facade of an industrial building destroyed by fire in the 1930s.

The pier is home to the first concrete warehouse ever built in San Francisco.
